What to bring to a facial appointment: your skincare routine checklist
Bring photos of your current skincare products, a short note about how you use them, and the questions you want answered. You do not need a perfect routine or a bag full of new products. A clear picture of what you already do is a useful starting point for the conversation.

Photograph the label, not just the brand
This checklist is for getting organised before a facial or skin-treatment appointment. Any preparation instructions for your booked treatment should come from the provider.
“I use a Medik8 serum” or “my cleanser is Dermalogica” leaves out the specific product. Photograph the front label so the full name is readable. If the product shows a strength or concentration, include it in the photo. Keep the packaging details available for anything you are unsure how to describe.
Dermalogica's own virtual-consultation guidance asks clients to have their existing products ready and to discuss their routine and goals. That supports this simple preparation step; it does not mean Chafa offers the same virtual service or follows its appointment format.
You can keep the photos in an album on your phone to show during the appointment. There is no need to replace products before asking about them.

Write down what you actually use
Record your usual week rather than an ideal routine you hope to follow. Include the products you reach for occasionally and anything you recently started or stopped using. A note such as “most evenings, but not every day” is more useful than an answer you are guessing.
Copy this short template into your phone:
This is a conversation aid, not a self-assessment form. Do not change prescribed treatment based on a skincare blog; ask the clinician who manages it.
- My main question: the one thing I most want to discuss.
- Morning: full product names and how often I use them.
- Evening: full product names and how often I use them.
- Occasional products: masks, exfoliants or other items I use less often.
- Recent changes: what changed and roughly when.
- Previous appointments: treatment names and dates, if known.
- Anything I want to discuss privately: previous reactions, relevant health information or prescribed products.
Describe your observations in ordinary words
You do not need to assign yourself a skin type or choose a diagnosis before the visit. Explain what you have noticed and when. If you cannot remember the exact timing, say so. If a product felt uncomfortable, identify it rather than trying to decide which ingredient was responsible.
Separate what happened from what you think caused it. “I noticed a change after starting this product” is information to discuss; it is not proof of a cause. Keep personal details for a private conversation with the provider rather than posting them in public comments.
Bring the questions that affect your decision
A useful appointment discussion should help you understand the next step. Save a few questions so you do not have to remember them while looking through a menu:
If you have an outdoor work shift, beach trip or important event coming up in Perth, mention the date and activity. Ask how those plans fit the guidance for your appointment; do not assume that a short booking means every activity is suitable afterwards.
- Which of my current products would you like to discuss before this treatment?
- Are there preparation instructions for my exact booking?
- What written aftercare guidance will I receive?
- If homecare is suggested, what is its purpose and separate cost?
- Who should I contact if I have a question afterwards?
